Blocking diodes ensure current flows only in one direction. Usage scenarios:

  • A diode placed on positive side of the solar panel circuit will prevent draining the battery overnight.
  • On multi-panel solar arrays with parallel branches, put a diode on each branch.
  • This will prevent back flow of current when a panel is shaded, or when different panel types are used in the same array.
